While tearing apart the starboard side of my 228 merc. (to replace the starter) I pulled the spark plugs and #6 was full of water. Compression is good and the boat runs good. Before the starter went out, she was doing about 32mph at about 3400rpm. It idles good and take a bit of time to get on plane, but once its there, she is very smooth!

Where could this water be coming from and why only the #6cyl?

Thanks. I searched some of the threads in this forum and noticed the consensus for water in cylinders was probably due to a gasket failure either betweeen the riser and manifold or the manifold and the head.

I re-used the old gaskets, when putting everything back together, and I'm hoping that is the problem and nothing more serious.

The info is appreciated!
