Water in bilge due to small hose in engine putting it there

My boat would take on zero water sitting at the dock. Zero. But when underway driving it would take on small amounts every trip. Like not much a few glasses of water worth. I checked while running it and noticed the hose in the attached picture was disconnected where i have pointed out and it was spittung out water while underway. The water would pool below it and make its way down to the bilge in the bottom center of the boat. So i just reconnected the hose before taking this pic of it. Can anyone tell me what this hose is for? Is it water the engine has brought in to cool itself or what is it carrying water from and to? Thanks for any help! Its not the bilge pump as thats another hose and shut off while this one is spilling water out. Jim

That looks like the pitot tube for the speedometer. It normally uses pressure from the water passing over a small hole (in the outdrive or a fitting attached to the hull) to pressurized the air in the tube. The pressurized air is read by a gauge - the speedometer - on your dash. If you get a hole in the tube, rather than pressurizing the air, water is driven up into the tube and out the hole.

I'm guessing your speedometer hasn't been working correctly...

You can replace the tube, if you use your speedometer, or you can cap it (if you use GPS for a speedometer).

That looks like the pitot tube for your speedometer. It looks like a plastic coupler is connecting two ends together and with one end dangling, you will get a stream just as you describe.

Speedometer has not been working. If this fixed tge water issue and the speedometer issue im pretty happy over here.

Tachometer and temp gauge dont work either i wonder if theyll be fixed with the same ease.

The tach and temp gauge are electrical, unlike the speedo which is just an air pressure gauge. So, they won't be as easy.

What else isn't working? It might be a shared fuse.

Well, the gas gauge and the battery gauge and now i believe the speedometer work. The tach, trim, oil pressure, and temp dont work. The temp moves a twitch to the left when i turn the key so its got juice it just isnt reading anything. Like it twitches when i turn the key then reads zero going forward. The others are lifeless. Underneath it looks like the tach and trim have some cut wires coming off them. The temp and tach and oil pres would be nice to have working.
