ok, my first post, bear with me
my sister and I have a 1990 bayliner capri,3.0L 120 horse mercruiser I have been noticing a brief hesitation on acceleration under load (i.e. pulling wakeboarders/skiers) and a miss at idle speed lately. Yesterday I changed plugs and #4 was wet, pulled dipstick and oil is white and foamy. Level is up less than half a quart.
most likely culprit?
oh yeah, first run this year bilge pump was not working....have any bearing on this?
Take pity...just a woman ( never admit to saying it)

Re: water in engine oil

sounds like you might have a cracked head and or a bad head gasket. when you remove your head check for cracks.if there a crack check and see if your local machine shop can weld and machine if needed for you as a new head is aroud $600

Re: water in engine oil

Hi FC,

Welcome to iBoats.

Water in the oil in your case could come from a couple of places.

1. Was the engine properly prepared for the winter. If not, then when the water in the block freezes it expands and cracks the block. Allowing water into the oil.
2. (More likely) The exhaust elbow is leaking and needs replacing. I think this is more likely because of the water on plug #4. Right at the elbow end of the manifold.

Good luck.

Chris...............
