I took the engine mounted fuel filter off of my 1989 130 hp yamaha and there was some water in the bottom of the bowl. I also have a spin on type fuel water seperator that i am going replace. I am an auto mechanic and we put alcohol in tanks that have a little water in them, about a quart to 20 gallons. do you know if this will be ok in an oil injected outboard? I sure hate to drain a 100 gallon tank that is full.

Re: water in fuel

Install a Racor filter. There is a drain on the bottom of the bowl so you can check the condition of your fuel. Water is the silent killer of two-strokes. We see many powerhead failures due to water. Either in the fuel or the oil tank. Keep your fuel clean and remove the oil tank in the boat annually. Drain it clean the bottom of sludge and clean/replace the small oil filter on the back of the oil tank.
