When I drained the case on my '87 70 Hp, the synthetic was all cloudy and about a teaspoon of water came out at the end. I winterized everything else but it was cold so I got lazy and didn't change the oil.
While reading some other posts I noticed some references to fibre washers/gaskets. My boat had rubber o-rings on the vent/drain screws when I bought it.

Question 1: When I fill the case and tighten the vent screw (with the o-rings), oil will pour out when I remove the filler pump from the drain hole, but not as much as when the vent is opened. Is this normal? I thought that it should be like holding water in a straw with your finger on the top end so nothing runs out.

Question 2: A buddy said that if I run it on the muffs for 10 min or so and then get water in the oil the leak is in the water pump somewhere. True or false?

Question 3: Where is the next logical place to look for a leak? It doesn't drip any oil even when sitting in the sun all day, even after being run on the muffs.

I bought the proper vent/drain gaskets today but haven't had a chance to get out on the water yet to test them.

Thanks for any input,
Grant
