The water pump doesn't have 7 gaskets on it. You may have a seal kit for the whole stern drive. I recently rebuilt mine & so far no water in the oil (cross my fingers). It actually wasn't that hard, I've been wrenching dirt bikes for a while but this is my first boat. You'll need a manual. My boats an 89 so I figured even if only one seal needed changing it wouldn't hurt to change all since I had the stern drive on my work bench.

You need to drain the oil and pressurize the drive to see where it is leaking.

Have you had the drive off to see what the condition of the bellows is in and see if there is any water in there? If you have a torn bellows I can guarantee you will get water in the drive as the driveshaft seal is not designed to keep water out.
