I recently bought my first boat and it has a 1961 75hp evinrude starfliteIII engine on it.The boat has been stored outside for some time in the rain. Upon loosening the bottom oil plug about 1/4 cup of water came out followed by some oil that smelled of fuel. How bad is that and what will it take and cost to fix? Can i fix it myself? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hi Crest,
If you are referring to the lower drain plug in the lower unit, you may have a problem.I recently had same problem with water on my motor.I removed the lower unit and brought it in to my Johnson dealer, who fixed it.The seals(o-rings)go bad and water seeps in.There should be NO water in there whatsoever.Unless you have a manual for your motor,I would not attempt self repair.Good Luck.
;)

crest,
Check the manual to see if there are any special tools or pullers, etc. involved. Then go from there. As far as cost,I don't know becuase I have not yet received my bill.(I would estimate my bill around $100+-,but thats for a large V-6 gearcase).I hope you can find parts for your outboard...Good Luck. :)
