Water in oil ala rookie mistake... Opinions please?

Forgot to plug it 2nd time out and soaked the back seat carpet area. After getting the water out we ran it about an hour, then it would not start. It would make the clicking noises but no turn over. Next day hosed off alot of creamy milk out of the engine compartment, don't know where or how it got blown ALL over, up and down. Brought it in on day 2, got a new starter switch (fried) and oil/filter change. The mechanic said there would be water in the oil for at least (true or false?) a few trips out. Now also, will
I want to change the oil/filter any more times before taking it out? And also, do I use SAE40SE(block says) or 10w30(cap says)? It is a Forester with a GM 2.5L/Merc lower if that helps... Thanks!

Add some Berryman's to the crankcase. Run the engine up to temp and then for another 10-15 minutes. Change the oil and filter. Take the boat out on the water... a hard 20 minute run should remove all the remaining condensation from the block. Check the oil... if you see brown foam or chocolate, change the oil a third time. Certainly 3 times is plenty.

And which oil? SAE? I'm in MN and never heard of Berrymans, but Checkers has it..

15W40 delo 400 is good. straight 30W is good to if you can find it.

The Delo 400 is what I use. Either the 30W or 15W40 whatever is on the shelf.

You may want to go ahead and plan on replacing your starter, too. Once they get that wet, their days are numbered...

So are you guys saying to use NOT the oil as stated on the block? No to the SAE40SE? Never heard of Delo but will take a look! TY

Check the old oil threads in here- search oil. Lot of opinions, probably all work.

OK half way there...

Good luck! get it up to temp and run it at least 3000 or more rpm for a while.
It should dry out the remaining water.
The delo is truck oil,or you can use Rotella T,both come in 30w and can be found at any truck stop and some auto parts stores. Very tough oil...

DON'T FORGET THE PLUG!!

I got ALL they way out to launch and... No starting! It would sometimes "click" and other times- nothin! Started up fine after I added Berrymans last night in the garage so, on to new problems I guess. Start with connections (wishful thinking) and get em all shiny...

I got it out today after charging the battery last night. Got out smooth and about 10 minutes into the run I started smoking BAD. A guy on the landing said it could just be burning off any excess water inside but I was not taking anymore chances. I did notice the big pipe (remember I am new!) with rubber connectors behind the block was looking like a BBQ. Maybe the root of the heat? Temp got to 230 at the end, checked the oil and looked very clean tho. So I may be on to MORE problems! Also, a plastic piece came off the lower part of the lower unit, it is about 1/2 inch x 3 inches long, plastic and screwed together to a matching piece on the other side of lower. I now have one! Cannot figure what it is though... Help!?

And what is that small piece I am referring to? It is behind the prop about 1/2 way across the lowest lower. Vented and abot 1x3 inches...

Sounds like you are describing the water inlet screen. That is where the engine pulls the water from - the plastic is a screen to keep debris out. Have you run the engine while the boat is out of the water? If so, have you used "muffs?"

I ran it muffless for a few minutes. I do not know if the mechanics did or not, I know they said they could'nt get it up to temp all the way? Does that piece missing explain my burning exhaust pipe/rubber connector and stuff? Not sure even where it fell off so gotta get a new one!

That's more than likely why she is now overheating. You more than likely damged the raw water pump impeller while running with no water curculation. Once out on the water, the damaged impeller couldn't provide enough water to the engine, hence the overheating. How long did you run it after the "muffless" run?

You should NEVER run your motor without water cooling it. you can run it on muffs thru your garden hose, or cut down a 55 gallon drum and fill with water and run it in there or at the lake, the rubber impeller will burn up in seconds without water. fyi

You have all kinds of parts clogging your system now.
Pull the burnt impeller, and follow the water flow; pieces are stuck everywhere.
