I just picked up a boat for nothing and it has a Omc inboard and found water in the oil. I started to pump it out and pumped
about 5 liters of water out before i got to the
oil. My question is what can i pour into the engine and down the cylinders before i put new oil in it? I just wanna crank it over and check the compression to make its the head gasket and the engine is still usable

Ayuh,.... Just dump in 5 quarts of cheap oil, 'n light it off,....

My guess is, the oil level will rise as ya run it, from a Cracked block,.....

It would be better to pressure check the cooling system.

No sense in wasting money on a battery and oil if the block is cracked.

Pressure test it. Is this the 3.8 you picked up, or the 3.0 tour trying to fix?

I have a blown 3.0 that is garbage. I got a boat given to me that has the 3.8. The 3.8 is the one that had water in the engine. Just seeing if i can salvage this motor since its not costing me anything to do so.

There is nothing to salvage.
Go buy either a rebuild block and swap or if you want to the cheap, try to get a car block and swap parts.
There is no real fix from a cracked block except replacing the block.

it would depend if the 3.8 is a kaiser/jeep/buick based 225 block, or the very short lived and rare chevrolet 229 block

Ayuh,.... Sounds like yer at a major crossroads,....

Now ya got 2 boats with badly broken motors, 'n questionable drives,.....

I'm thinkin' the drive with the 3.0l is a Stringer 400,....
I don't think the Stringer 400 was used with the 3.8l motor though,.... probably an 800,...
