Water in oil

I have a year 2000 Merc 5.7 carborated, it was dieseling (run on) last time out. My oil looked a little like milkshake. The level on dipstick didn't change so I don't think its alot of water. I drained oil and am about to fill it back up, change the filter and sparkplugs then drain it again and fill it back up. Every shop I call says that dieseling cannot cause water in oil but I've read online forums that suggest otherwise. Local shops are telling me that I've got a cracked head or manifold. Are they jumping to worse case scenarios? Does dieseling cause water to enter engine? Thanks, input would be great.

Re: Water in oil

Water can indeed enter the engine when it diesels. But it only enters the cylinders. It has to filter down through the rings to get into the oil.

Since you have already changed the oil, start it and run it up to temp - check the oil.... heating it up with evaporate the water out. It yo continue to get water in the oil you know you have a bigger issue than the dieseling.

(Having said that, you do need to solve the dieseling issue).

Re: Water in oil

You have to find out why it's deiseling. When u say deiseling I'm asuming u mean that the engine runs on after u shut it down. What octane fuel are u running? If it's 87, try going with at least an 89 octane. What temp is the engine running at? Is it running hot? Also, after a run don't immedietely shut down the engine. Let it sit at idle for a few seconds, then shut down the engine. Hope this helps.
