Lower end oil looks like it has water in it. What’s up?

Water got in somehow.

Driveshaft seal, prop shaft seal, shift rod seal, fill and drain screw gaskets.
Possibly water pump gasket.

Always use new gaskets on drain and fill screws.

Easiest, put new gaskets on screws, fill it up, use it, and check for water after a few hours use.

Or, you can pressure test the gearcase, 3-5# of air pressure with unit in tank of water, look for bubbles.

Got it, and thank you.

Fix up a spray bottle with 50-50 soap/water.
Remove and drain the lower unit.
Install all but 1 fill/drain plug.
A quick shot of air from a hand pump.
Then spray all the spots where it could possibly leak.

Can't really tell how much water is in the oil from that pic?

About 25% of water to oil mix. Checked all gaskets, seals, fill and drain holes. All bearings and gears looke like new. Rebuilt back in 2007 but no O ring on upper oil check plug. Fixed that, added new home made gaskets and bought O rings that worked. Now I’m stuck in forward drive. Tried adjusting shift linkage even though I marked it before dis-assembling. Nothing but forward.

You remove the screw on the side of the housing?
Yes? then the shift lever in the drive has dropped and you'll need to take apart and put it back right.

Did all that and set the motor in the drum again, filled it with water looking for any bubbles for leaks. Non-Shifts were due to shift yoke off of shift arm, and the pivot screw not aligned with the shift arm coupler. Custom made any and all gaskets, reinstalled it all and it works like it is suppose to.

Yup, made a big mistake there and didn't suffer any further damage. Thank you.
