I have a 1986 omc 3.0 motor that I recently just got. It hasnt been on the water in about a year and when I brought it to the lake it started to overheat. So I turned it off fixed the overheating problem and when back to the lake. When I was on the lake it was running perfect with a little knock from the motor. So I stopped and checked to make sure the oil was good but it was milky. So when I got home I changed the head gasket but before I went out I wanted to make sure that the oil in the outdrive was fine but it was milky to. Could a headgasket bad make water leak into the outdrive? I mean Idk why theres water in the outdrive. And also I noticed that water was leaking from the back of the motor. It looked like it was coming from the flywheel, but I think that was the head gasket. Please Help me

Water from a blown head gasket should be completely seperate from your outdrive oil, sounds to me like you have a leak in the outdrive someplace. Or the last time you had it in the water it go into your outdrive. Put a set of muffs on the engine and start it out of the water an check for water leaking in around the engine, you might have a cracked block, cracked exhaust or if your lucky it was from the head gasket leaking. Its much eaiser to pin point the problem area out of the water. Good luck!

Well I found out earlier that the leak was coming from the blown head gasket but what would be leaking on the outdrive. Like what is the main gasket to go out on the outdrive. And also on the impeller case there is a tiny pin like hole that water comes out. Is that little hole supposed to be there.omc984744.jpg

The hole belongs there, it's a vent. Water in outdrive could be condensation, but not likely. Check the 3 plugs on the drive to make sure they have washers. Pull the impeller cover & look at the seal inside the adaptor. Is oil leaking out? If so the seal is bad. Pull the prop & look at the prop shaft seal. Same thing, if u see oil leaking out, seal is shot. If that don't do it, then the drive needs to be pressure tested to find the leak.

yes, that is supposed to be there. Normally there is a nipple with a hose attached but the purpose of it is more cosmetic than functional.
