I have volvo penta aq 185 outdrive. (190 upper combined w/ 180 lower) Getting water in drive as had grey milkshake for gear lube when changed for winter storage. Any suggestions as to where to start to fix? Have seals (waiting to replace) for shifter shaft and propshaft shaft. Replacing all bellows also. I understand you can't get water in outdrive w/ leaking bellows, true? On fixed income and can't send to dealer. Boat sits in water all summer at dock. I think you have to pull entire propshaft to get at oil/water seals, correct? Help!

Re: Water in outdrive

When was the last time you replaced the drain and fill plug seals? Those fail on a regular basis.

Re: Water in outdrive

Never...owned boat 4 years now '89 barretta supersport 200 cuddy w/ built in swim platform that cover top of outdrive, so entire outdrive is underwater 24/7. Someone mentioned those o-rings, but I can imagine getting that much water in outdrive from those two small o-rings. I've been known to be wrong though! Should I try that easy fix and put in water for couple of weeks and check lube? Have to pull out of water to check, at least until water warms up alot(docked on Erie by Cleveland) then I can tilt top of drive out of water enough to check, but wouldn't oil be on top and water bottom of drive? Then would look like lube ok. But if I motor to swimming hole about 2 miles away oil and water should be mixed enought to check, right? Clueless in Cleveland!!!
