Re: Water in tank ?

Small amounts of water can be absorbed into the fuel by products like HEET, Leo.<br /><br />The best solution is a water seperating fuel filter and/or draining the water by disonnecting the fuel line and siphoning it off.<br /><br />Good luck, and welcome to iboats. :)

Yes that is where they go.<br /><br />If you suspect water in the tank it would be a good idea to drain the filter each time you go out until the water is gone.

Re: Water in tank ?

Hey JB, I just purchased a can of HEET for the very same thing and as I was pouring it in I came to a dead stop. There is a warning on the back of the label of HEET that states, "For use in 4 cycle engines only".<br /><br />I don't know... I'm not going to risk it. I thought it was basically alcohol but not sure what else may be in it. I spoke to the marine mech at a local shop and he said that the HEET will bind with the oil and won't affect the gas. I didn't ask but assume he was talking about pre-mix.<br /><br />I did pick up a fuel conditioner specifically formulated for 2 cycle motors made by Johnson/Evinrude.

Re: Water in tank ?

I've been tossing a couple bottles of HEET in my 2 stroke 25 gallon gas tanks for years over winter with zero problem, so I went out for a look at a bottle I had left. I'll be damnned...NOT FOR USE IN 2 strokes/deisels! So that "bond with oil" might have some truth. I'm going to email GoldEagle and ask why. I think its a lawyer thing to tell the truth, but who knows. Anyway, I just bought a bottle of MDR "Water Zorb" (Boaters World) for the big boat tank that cost 12 bucks for a pint, but 1 ounce treats 18 gallons (pint to 300 gals), and it does NOT contain alcohol/methanol. I will look into "StarBrite"'s stuff too. It contains alcohol I think, so I'm curious if it says "no 2 stroke" too. Anybody have a bottle of StarBrite around? What does it say?

From the FAQ's at Goldeagle.com....<br /> <br />"Can I use HEET in 2 cycle or diesel engines? <br />No, only use HEET (in the yellow bottle) in 4-cycle gasoline engines. However, Iso-HEET (in the red bottle) can be used in any type of internal combustion engine (2 cycle, 4 cycle and diesel). "<br />I emailed and asked why, but will not get a reply for a few days. (I think its alcohol/carbparts/lawyer thing)
