I have a 1974 boat with a Murcruiser inline 250 CID inline 6. How can water get in my tilt trim motor. I bought the motor used and wanted to change the oil. The oil is milky white (water in the oil). The guy I bought it from said he just changed the outdrive hydraulic hoses to the cylinders.

How many ways can water get in?

A couple I thought of:

Previous owner sucked up water right before he changed the hoses?

Could cylinders seals leak?

Anybody ever seen this????

It is likely the seals in the trim cylinders are allowing water into the PTT system. Suck out the old milky oil and refill with 5W-30 oil and see if it gets milky again. If so, it's time to rebuild/replace the cylinders

Ditto what rabristol said. I am betting seals on trim cylinders are bad.

My 1974 Pre-Alpha drive did the same thing, turned out to be the seals in gland of the cylinder. I was able to repair one of the cylinders but replaced the other. I have a brand new trim cylinder for this drive, if you need one send me a private message.
