Re: Water in toons

No the boat dealer showed me some paper work that said the 2nd owner was covered. It was some sort of sales brochure. He's gone so its hearsay now. I'm not that worried about the warranty. I'm more concerned with the lack of interest from the company, the lack of dealers in this area (only one in Texas closed down), and that this thing is leaking and its not 2 years old. If I had hit something then fine but I didn't. Its trailered and doesn't sit at a marina 365 days a year. This boat wasn't expensive. I'd be PO'd if it was one of their $50K boats.

I just wouldn't chose this brand if I was going to buy another one, which I plan to in the next 2-3 months. Its like a travel trailer. There are a million different brands to pick from.

I would encourage you to send an email to Manitou and convey these very thoughts. I can (sort of, I guess) understand their refusal to warranty the toons for the second owner, but you have some valid points that they need to consider. Their poor customer relations have now alienated someone who is three months away from buying a brand new barge, and guess whose line he won't consider as a result of their flippant attitude? If I were in charge at Manitou I'd sure want to know about this.

Actually I already did email them before lunch today. We'll see if I hear back. I'm not one of these people that expect a lifetime warranty on used equipment. I know that there will be repairs needed on anything and I'm willing to pay for it. I guess I just expected a little more interest or maybe even some tips on finding the leak or what to look for. They answer was sorry no warranty for you and yes the closest dealer is in Tulsa OK. Its going to be fixed soon and thanks to all of you I found the right type of welder. Just wasn't looking in the right area at first.

I felt the same way when my expensive boat needed a fix that could sink it. Dont worry about it. After the big $100 fix is dun you can enjoy your new boat. I have had many pontoon boats they ALL had leaks. I like to park on the rocks and hit islands at night. After the fix they were better then NEW. Yes better then new. I had the connections and experience to get boat fixed. Although its not just like a ding in the prop its the next thing. Cheap ez fix that the manufactures would go out of business fixing if they had to follow different owners. Your brand of boat puchase is one of the best in the pontoon world. Thickness of aluminum, weld properties and deck strength. You made a great decision with Manitou. No I dont work for them nor have I ever owned one little to $ for me. Enjoy your next to new boat and go buy an extra prop at $175. IT will get your mind off your toon with a leak. What size model and engine do you have?

Killerwhales it s a E-tec 90

So I took it to the welder this morning and it was a leak in the back of the tube. All fixed now for 135. If anyone needs a good welder in the Dallas area I took it to Cox Welding in Plano, TX.

Good to know. I'm in Fort Worth, boat is in Granbury. I don't own a trailer, but it's on my list.

Glad it worked out. Seems like a great price.

Hope the weld worked out for you. Just curious you said it was on the back of toon. How high/low was weld from waterline? How far from bow? Just like to know for future pontoon education.

Customer service is buisness, you can make the best whatever in the world but if blow people off when something goes wrong you won't be around long.

I know we at work have warrantied alot of stuff that we could have easily turned down, I remember hearing we bought a boat back becuse of an unresolved engine issue, but the only boat that guy will ever buy again is one of ours, as I say, it isn't the problem, it is how you deal with it.

Look at Nauticus, they have stellar cutomer service and in turn they get referals all the time.

It may have saved them a few hundred $ but will the OP get another one later????

Yep. That's what I pointed out earlier. He's buying a brand new barge in three months, and because of their lack of customer service it won't be one of theirs. I get the feeling his problem had more to do with their attitude than their refusal to warranty the tube. Now it's evolved into a two page thread. Way to go Manitou.

Exactly is was their attitude. They never did call me back or respond to my emails. I want something a little faster and be able to give the kids a thrill ride on a tube. I'll probably look at the benningtons. I know that Manutou boats are well built but I get the impression dealing with them that they are run out of a garage and not a real company. They can't be with a customer service department like they currently have.

Re: Water in toons

I won't try to steer you to a Bennington but I will say our warranty is second to none and our dealers are all fantastic, as a recent thread proved we aren't perfect by any means but we stand behind our boats.

Maybe I will steer him, I just bought a motorcycle last night(!!!!!) and will have payments to make so tone100 you are gonna have to get 2 maybe 3 of them.

Oddly enough I was on the boat fishing with my wife when I called the guy and got it so I combined the 3 things I love most into one and on a 4 day weekend, life is good.

Oh and the welder you found sounds right in line fee wise, I couldn't believe the places wanting hundreds of dollars for a simple job like that, as I said, I would have done it for a case of Cerveza.

After reading tone100 customer service problems with Manutou it kinda makes your wonder "why" there's no more dealers located in Texas, you think other customers may have had problems. That word of mouth will get around quick with any business good or bad. Good to know about the welder in Plano, he's only about 15 miles from me.

Re: Water in toons

My warranty on my pontoon is transferable to another owner. I think it is BS that a warranty would not be honored just because it was sold. That is not standing behind their product and a pretty poor business decision for them IMO.

Also, my pontoon manufacture will pay shop rate on a warranty repair. I have a repair that i need and they will simply pay my marina their standard rate if I want. Or, I can haul it down to my dealer.

WaterDR: You ought to read about the 1 year of hell that a Sylvan customer has gone through on the Pontoon Boat Forum over an upholstery issue. The dealer had his boat 5 months without replacing the vinyl. Sylvan blamed it on a supplier.

Back to this issue: I almost bought a Manitou Oasis VP with 150 hp ETEC last week, but my wife decided she really liked the Bennington. It was more luxurious and just another $1K. For once, I was able to make her happy.

Thankfully the toon repair wasn't anything major. I promise you that Manitou is going to miss much more $ in no-sales after this posting than a simple toon welding bill would have set'em back.
