Water Inlet/Outlet Tubes

I'm finally getting ready to get my lower unit back on my motor, but I noticed that both the water inlet and outlet tubes are loose. I saw no mention of how these were attached or even how to get to them in my Selco Manual. Should they be pretty tight before I place my lower unit back on?

Re: Water Inlet/Outlet Tubes

They just fit into the grommets. I use marine grease during installation. Take your time and you should be ok. Post back results. BTW did you check to make sure impeller was pumping before you reassemble?

No, but I just replaced the impeller, seals, o-rings and bearings so it should be ok. Is there an easy way to test it before I place it back on the motor? I was worried about the water tubes leaking from the top since I can easily turn them by hand.

Put lower unit in a tank of water and fill it to the impeller housing and spin it with a drill. does it pump? (YES) then ok.(NO) ? This way if there's a problem you don't find out after its reassembled. Good luck
