Water inside the hull?

I have an old 71 Corson fiberglass boat with a sealed deck with foam under it. It is no longer sealed thanks to the many small holes left from screws... that were never properly sealed and now the foam is water logged. I had planned on drilling some 1" holes under the front seats and a few at the back of the boat to allow some ventilation. should I leave these open and fill them with drain plugs or seal them up when the foam dries out? My other question is at what point should I be concerned about dry rot in the plywood frame... When do you realize you just waisting time and money? Thanks.

it will not dry out, time for a deck replacement, and get the soggy foam out. your stringers and transom is probably involved also.

Read some of the posts in the Restoration Forum http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22. Wet foam is seirous issue, it will eventually cause your transom, stringers, and sole to rot out. It also adds hundreds of pounds of extra weight to your boat. Removing it is a MAJOR undertaking and has to be done if you intend on keeping the boat, as it will not ever dry on its own.
