Another day on the water, another problem. I'm starting to re-think my decision to go for a brand new boat!
Today - we were maybe .5 miles into our trip when the engine alarm went off. I immediately shut down and opened the hatch - bilge was full and there was a bit of smoke. Turns out, the water intake hose that cools the engine completely broke off.
This is a brand new '10 Mercruiser 3.0, Alpha One. It should be covered under warranty (calling dealer tomorrow)...but my question(s) are:
- Could I have done anything to cause this? Or should I just assume it was a factory defect?
- I shut down as soon as I heard the alarm and only restarted when someone was holding the hose in place..should I be concerned about the small amount of smoke?
Thanks, everyone.
