Water Intake Screens need Replacing. 140HP 1987

87 Johnson 140 V-4. Sucked up seaweed almost destroyed my motor. Need to replace intake screens, lower unit is removed for water pump service. Is there an external screen that can be installed? If not, does the drive shaft have to be removed? How is this task accomplished?

once the water pump is off, you will see a bearing housing below it (4 bolts). You may or may not have to remove those bolts & housing----depends on clearance for the new screen to go in. You probably will have to crumble the old screen to get it out if it isn't already crumbled. Once out all you have to do is insert the new one and push it down till it locks in location.

Thanks for your help. Only needed to remove water pump and used 2 screwdrivers to pry up old screen, there was enough clearance!!! Like you said other screen slide in no problem after cleaning.
