On commissioning engine (1983 75 hp Johnny) with ear muffs on water intake ports, either blew in, or sucked in port screens (both sides). Am I in trouble? Where did they go? Where can they go? Without screens, can debris go into housing, into water intake tube, into water pump, and into engine block passages? Any other "upstream" screens? Have 3 ports on each side. Were there 6 small screens or two big ones? What are screens made of?

These screens' are made of a plastic material, are wedged shape, and one piece. You most certainly want that screen back in place. You will have to drop the gear case to do this. It will simply be up in the top of it's cavity. There are a couple of tab's molded into the screen so that it snap's in place, and stay's put. I once had a V-4 in for repair where the man thought that if a little water is good, more is better, and deliberately broke out the screen. It was an all day job getting the sand out of the block water passage's.
