water intake where is it??

I have a 1973ish 18 hp evinrude. I cant seem to hook up the "ears" to the water intake. Does anyone know whre I can find the water intake?? I have tried a few places... thanks

On all the boats I have owned and pretty much on every boat motor they should be on the lower unit... Right behind the propellar on mine

Muffs won't work. Got a garbage pail to fill with water? The intake is on the leading surface of the exhaust snout. There was an apparatus to run on a hose available once upon a time, but it was pretty useless.
