I've had water shooting out and dislodgeing the plastic cover just below the water inlet on the lower part of the trunk. I replaced the plastic cover and the water pressure just dislodged it again. Is this expensive to fix? Is it an exhaust gasket leak? Also, I've bought a new trim/tilt pump with the 2 lines but from a newer model twin ram motor. Lines seem to fit etc.. will this cause problems with the trim or hydraulics? Thanks heaps, as I'm new to this forum & recently converted to outboard ski boats, as I grew up with and am used to inboards.

It sounds like the cover for the trim tab bolt about 5/8" dia.,if this is the case you don't need it the cover is for looks only, if that the cover you are worried about and can't live with out it use a little glue or adhesive on it, but remember it does need to come off for some service work so don't overdue

Thanks Laddies... Actually the cover is a fair bit higher than the water inlet. It is rectangular and about 75mm by 65mm (only roughly guessing). It seems like its an exhaust leak or something as it has a bit of pressure behind it & feels like exhaust. Is there an exhaust gasket there that may have blown or something. Could this be expensive?? thanks

Thanks Bob
OK.. have looked on the site & found the parts & part numbers etc... but still not sure of the cause of the problem? link page is:

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...20&bdesc=DRIVE+SHAFT+HOUSING+AND+EXHAUST+TUBE

It is at the bottom of the Drive Shaft Housing. The cover(67077T) screws onto a clamp (54-67076) which clamps a 'mount lower' (78249) onto the bottom of the drive shaft housing...

The exhaust tube of course goes inside the Drive Shaft Housing. I'm still trying to figure what is causing the exhaust & water to shoot out this area & 'blow' the cover off?

This is probably getting confusing now...

That cover should be held on with a couple of screws I thought, but I have never had a lower mount on a V/6 apart so I'm not sure. I did not know that the torque tube even had a opening behind it, on some smaller engines the upper mount does to acommodate the bolt for the mount. I would look the mount over to make sure it is alright and if it looks good seal the area that it looks like the gases are coming from an replace the cover, wish I had a better anwser for you but if no one else chimes in I would put it back together, as the cover is for looks as much as I can tell--Bob

Is it possible the exhaust tube has been taken out of this motor?
