water leaking into bilge

Today we stopped at the dock and raised the drive because the water is low. After the motor was shut off I could hear water trickling in the bilge. I looked and it was a pretty steady small stream coming off of the bottom of the exhaust y. I pumped it out and went back out for a while. Next time we stopped I checked again and nothing. I realized after we were back home the second time I checked the drive was down. Is there something that would leak with the drive up and not leak with it down?

Will it hurt to run it a couple more weekends to finish the season? I suppose that would be risking damaging the gimbal bearing and u-joints though wouldn't it :(

Same thing happened to a friends boat. It was the shift cable bellows. He put rtv on it for the weekend. Next up is a bellows job. Do all of them once you are in there. Shift cable would be a good idea too.

And getting water past the seals into the drive. Now you know why changing bellows is part of preventive maintenance and should be done every 5 years.
