Hey everyone,

1985 26' Sea Ray. Possible water logged foam

Roughly, how much weight does water logged foam add? (let's say a 1' x 1' piece of foam, how much heavier is it if it's water logged?)

Kinda hard to predict due to how deep the foam is, how long it has been in water, type of foam, etc. What we do know is that a gallon of water is about 8 lbs. A gallon could certainly fit into a 1x1x1/2 area, and you could conceivably have a 4 x 20 area like that. The math in that scenario would point to a 640 lb gain. Definitely significant.

I weighed mine after water had dripped out of the wet chunk and the chunk was dry to the touch on the outside. It came to 5:1 ratio. You can see the difference in coloring of the wet and dry. Go to the bottom of this page Not very scientific, but ya get the idea.

Thanks guys.. that's what I was looking for. I think the best thing for me to do is just take it to a scale and see what the weight is... it seems to sit fine in the water, but I'm worried about it weighing more than it should.

each imperial gallon of water weighs 10 pounds.
US gallon weighs 8.33 pounds

bathtub full= ~20 gallons = ~150 to 200 pounds or so
