Water main break in Downtown Minneapolis, pics

So there was a critical water main break in Downtown Minneapolis yesterday afternoon. Nothing like the aftermath of Katrina or Sandy but interesting to see a key part of a major City under water.

"An area near the Hennepin Avenue Bridge remained closed Friday morning after a major water main break in downtown Minneapolis flooded streets and cut off water to a substantial swath of the city just before rush hour Thursday afternoon.

Crews worked through the night to repair the damage caused by 14 million gallons of rushing water."

The culprit is this tipped over backhoe that severed the main while working on a $70million luxury condo project.

I work in downtown a few blocks from there and pass within one block to leave and I had no idea this was going on until my wife called me to ask if I made it out of the city.

Oh, he didn't do it. He was miles away!

I was up at the Guthrie last year. That area is a nice part of town. Fortunately, this time of year it can double as the municipal ice rink.

I work downtown as well and my buidling was evacuated and everybody was told to go home. Too bad it wasn't earlier in the day. I go south so there was no impact for me to get out. Some of my co-workers go north and had long lines for buses.

My understanding is that it was 36" water main. Thats a big pipe.

Ohh guess who's paying that bill...Fingers are pointing up down north south east west. My god what a mess.

My office is 5 blocks away. I was doing the potty dance for about 4 hours and when I finally got the chance to go the bathrooms were closed because we had no water. Argghhh. What's worse, traffic was terrible getting out of downtown. There's nothing like a traffic jam when ya gotta go.

Not sure what building but I heard 2 levels of underground parking were flooded.
