water on uncured polyester resin

I finally got my transom in, what a nightmare mixing up all that resin! when i got it all in i lifted the front of boat up to pour some thickend resin around the gaps and didn't realize there was some water under the tunnel in center of boat bottom, so needless to say just the lower part of the transom about 6-8 inches wide got water on it, and i sucked it up but that area turned milky, will it ever dry or do i have to do something and add new resin to that area?

If just the surface got wet, then it will get hard, but the surface will stay tacky and white. You will need to sand off the white surface to do any more work on it. If it was soaked and water got down into the glass, then you need to remove all of it.

I think I can dig out the water damaged part and re-apply resin, you don't think resin sucks up water do you? I don't see how it could of gotten all the way into the backside of transom, just the area that came in contact, I will refuse to pull it all apart, lol. I'm going to be able to inspect and repair it in the morning. Thanks for the advise.

It shouldnt suck it up.

water dosnt normall hurt, move, or disolve resin.


polyester resin may not be the greatest, but should still hold up fine

You didn't say how soft the resin was that got wet, if it was completely or at least somewhat hard before it got wet, then most likely only the surface is affected. If the laminate was still fresh or soft, then water can get deeper and may come in contact with the glass, the glass can at times wick the water deeper into the laminate creating more problems. That's why I said it may need to be removed.
