I'm going to cover my new pontoon deck with marine plywood and vinyl.I noticed one vendor has a water based glue for wood only and a solvent based glue for metal, glass and wood. While I know there's pros and cons to each I would like a few opinions on what you would use...

Not having the hands on experience with gluing vinyl on a pontoon floor I may be wrong here. But from a laminating standpoint I would go with the solvent based over water based. The water based products have come a long way but I still like solvent based for strength and longevity.

I think you're right, the water based products like glue and auto paint was developed to be environmentally friendly, don't know if it makes them inferior.

I use a water based glue for butcher block cutting boards and counter tops. It's water resistant when dry. Just make certain your choice is appropriate for the application as set down by the manufacturer.

I wouldn't even question it but Marideck has two glues offered ,water base for wood only and solvent based for metal, fiberglass or wood.Maybe I'll give them a call.

Once the water based dries it is a wash between the 2, we use a water soluable glue on all our flooring a Bennington, it almost looks like Elmers glue.

Wiht the vinyl get it glues down and flat then staple around the edges, it like to lift.

I went with the MD 101 water based and is what is recommended for wood.It also has the advantage of covering more sq feet per gal and is easier to spread.

I have used the water base adhesive for carpet on my toon and it has held up. Like someone else said, once cured they are both equal. The only downside is the water base glues take longer to set up than the solvent type. I kept my pontoon out of the rain for 96 hours after installing the carpet. Now it stays out in the weather.
