New to Iboat I have a question rather a couple questions. I just replaced the water pump on my omc stern drive, when I hook up my earmuffs should I have water coming out of the right or left side of the pump adapter or both. I still have it apart and want to check th ings as I go. Have a manual on the way but want to continue. I have water coming out the pee hole and exhaust but nothing at the pump area, should there be? Thanks

Yes there is a small part where water comes out of the housing.
It's usually hooked to a small piece of hose.
Sometimes the hose is gone/removed and maybe plugged.

DSCN4237.jpg Here is the picture. It is my understanding water is suppose to come out of one of the holes if the earmuffs are attached. Am I wrong because when I hook them up and turn on the water nothing comes out of either hole.

Water should come out the hole on the right side when you hook up the muffs. Sometimes you have to squeeze the muffs tight to the water intakes of the lower unit to see water flow. If no water flow then there found be a blockage between the water intakes and the water tube that connects the upper and lower units. There are gaskets on either end of the water tube that can fail. To change them you have to split the upper and lower gear units.

Ok, that helps, is it best to remove them from the boat or just easier, and best place to get the gaskets. And again thanks.

Cobra 5.jpgCobra impeller mount.jpgThe drive has to come off to split the upper from the lower. It can be difficult to do if it has not been taken apart in a long time. I'd make sure first that is really the problem, by hooking up good muffs to the lower unit and holding them tight to the water intakes while someone turns on the water. The way I got mine apart (salt water use) was to use a piece of all thread in the hole for the rod that connects the trim ram and to put two bolts in lowest mounting holes on the front of the lower unit. Then I put one scissor jack under each end of the all thread and one under both bolts that are bolted into the mounting holes in the upper unit. Then I start each jack and raise them a little at a time and it will pop right off. This avoids a lot of prying that accomplishes nothing. Take a look at this pic......You can see the all thread in the hole for the trim ram rod and the bolts in the lower holes on the front of the upper unit....

Again that helps, like your idea in part the upper and lower looks better controlled. I'll get a helper to recheck the water supply and if need, do the deed this weekend, Thanks for your help.
