i have a DT30 suzuki 1985 model i just bought the owner said it wasnt pumping water i removed the power head and the pipe connecting to the water pump was blocked so my question is if the reservoir in the picture is half filled (filled up to the lowest piece of the pipe) will this stop a outboard from constantly pumping water? at this moment the engine will idle and pump water for 2-3 minutes than stop pumping water i have checked everything for blockages and there is no thermostat the impeller looks new

there should not be silicone in the motor, clean it all up and install proper gaskets.
How do you know it stops pumping water? tell tail stops?

Water cooled motors need to have the thermostat in place to restrict water flow and force the water into all parts of the cooling passages

If the silicone was in the water pump pipe it sounds like the last persons didn’t do a good job check that the rubber grommets are good and no pin holes in piping you could hook-up the hose direct to the tube flush everything good did you check to see if the key is in place on the impellor common problem.

Re: water passage blocked with silicone

have you put a water pump kit into it yet?

weak pump or Maybe the pump is sucking air or rather exhaust gasses if there is corrosion down around the pump housing where the exhaust runs out
