water preasure??

i have a 79 4cyl 80hp that i just got done rebuilding. i cant find what the water pressure should be in the cooling system. i put it on the muffs, and have none. is this something that will come up in the lake??? or do i have a faulty gauge? or did i put the impeller in wrong?? want to know before i go to the lake this afternoon.

Remove the wrap cowl. Remove the telltale elbow on the cylinder head water jacket. Strap on the muffs and start her up. Water should spray out the hole from the elbow, as well as from the grates above the antiventilation plate, and thru the prop.

As a rule you will not see more than a few PSI on those old inlines, at idle, and maybe 10 PSI at cruise speed.
