I just installed a temp/ oil pressure alarm on my 88 OMC 5.7. I was wondering; if I teed in another oil pressure switch into the cooling jacket, would the 5-7 psi switch work ok?, as I don't know what pressure signals trouble.

I would say it may depend on where you install it. With 7-8 lb switch your probably going to get a buzzer at idle to about 1000 rpms.

Pressure isn't going to work on a raw water cooled engine at idle.
But there should be water flow thru the system click here No reason to reinvent the wheel.

Don; can't we make this a lot lower than $75?

Reel, that's when it is needed, after 1000 rpms; that's when people stop monitoring the gauges.

Do you want to hear an alarm go off every time your engine is below 1000 rpm?

Since that sensor is only 1 inch, where would you put it?

EDIT: I see they carry larger diameter ones too...1.5 and 2.0 inch models. The larger ones need a baffle to change when the folw rate acticates the alarm.

Out of curiosity, what is the flow rate at idle of a Volvo SX drive?

Re: water pressure gauge

Being that I replaced the buzzer with a car horn, I have a dash switch to kill it while starting, etc. As wife and stepchildren use it without me at times, I wan't to be sure an alarm was heard. I can just switch it off until underway
