water pressure guage

How important is a pressure guage on a 1990 Faststrike I run 60mph at 5500rpm on gps no guage doesn't work never had on in my other boat should I fix it? :confused:

Hi twitch. I would suppose a water press gage has it's benny's. I've never had one.<br /><br />If you keep track of the pressure, you could could get some idea of when the pump impeller may be heading south and needs replaced. Or, if the high temp horn sounds, you could look at the gage and see if your getting the water to the engine.....give you and idea of what's causing the alarm....t-stat, something like plastic bag around the lower unit...(happens on occasion in the river). Really up to you.

Someone once said before on this fourm "A pressure gauge lets you know something is wrong before it happens. A temp gauge tells you something is wrong after it happens".
