Water pressure question

I ran my recent boat a few times this fall. During the winter I did some modifications and updates. I ran it today for the first time in months. During the repairs I had the console disconnected and flipped over while replacing wiring etc.

Today I noticed the water pressure gauge sitting around 6lbs. If I remember correctly this past fall, the pressure was much higher. The outboard (Mercury Classic fifty 45hp) has a good tail tell.

Question is, what water pressure is 'normal'? I am thinking that if the tail tell is good then its more than likely a bum gauge or kink in the pressure hose.

Re: Water pressure question

If your guage is electrically powered, check your ground connection. It must be clean and tight. Any resistance from a dirty connection will show a false reading.

Re: Water pressure question

Thank for the replys.

It is not electrical (except for the backlight) It has one small rubber tube which runs from the engine to the gauge.

As for the impeller setting. I ran the boat last November and then again just yesterday. So it sat for about 3 months.

In my slew of a tool box I do not have a liquid pressure gauge, nor one that could read that low (6 - 15 lbs) I have a good vac/pressure gauge but it will be ruined once filled with water. gurrrr.

Im going to assume with the strong tail tell that all is good.................unless someone else here can tell me a reason I should worry :p
