I have a 2007 90hp 2 stroke

the water pressure gauge on the boat reads up to 35PSI but I have never seen it go over around 10 at WOT..

is this normal? Ive never had an overheat alarm, and it blasts a pretty powerful stream out tell tale hole on the back..

The speedo in my car goes to 220km/hr, but I have never seen it go over 160, even at WOT.

Re: water pressure

well thanks for the smart *** answer.

but its more like if your car's max top speed was 100, and its speedometer read to 350.

but I guess that wouldn't be weird...

Well what exactly do you expect? If the gauge only went to 10psi you'd be here asking if that was right.

well, THINK, if only for a second, about the context in which the question was asked.

I had NO IDEA what the normal water pressure for the motor is.. All I see is gauges that go to 30PSI and mine never reads over 10.. hence my concern..

lets say you bought a car but had NO IDEA how fast it was supposed to be able to go.. and the speedometer went up to 200 but you could only ever get it to 40... wouldn't you wonder if that was the fastest the car was supposed to be able to go, or if something may be wrong, after all why put a speedometer that goes several times higher than the car can ever potentally go right? ? hmmmmmmmmmm?

Re: water pressure

10psi sounds about right. My gauge reads 2-3 psi at idle and 10-12 psi at WOT. I have a 0-15 gauge so I have near full deflection at WOT.

Re: water pressure

A Mercury shop manual for you motor will have the official specs. As an example, below is a link to the specs for my 150hp motor.

Please note that the actual readings you actually see may vary from the specs somewhat depending on the accuracy of your gauge and other factors. I have seen it recommended that one should check the actual reading on the gauge right after installing a new water pump impeller and then use that reading as the "normal" reading for subsequent monitoring.
