Guys,
Just bought a 1998 Johnson 130 Hp. I want to install a water presure guage, how do I do this. Looking in my motor cover I can see one large line on the water discharge, this line just loop up and has a check valve on it. There is a smaller line that comes from the head and exits at the same place as the other (pee hole). This smaller line is attached to a small fitting in the head, should there be another fitting to atttach the guage or what. Also at idle with hose attached how much water should be coming out of the water port after warm up?

the PS, should have a steady stream at all times, the water pressure connection is usually just a T fitting into the PS hose, up near the motor.

My '98 Johnny V6 had a water jacket plug on the port head. It even had the same thread as the fitting in the waterpresure gauge. I could not tell if your V4 had this plug. You need to look around on the head a bit.

The V6 has 30+PSI water pressure at high RPMs

You don't T into the overboard line on a 90* V4 looper. And there is no plug on those heads. There will be a plug in the adaptor plate (what the powerhead sits on) on the starboard side and that's where the fitting for the gauge goes.

Re: Water presure

Hey guys:

This past weedend I removed the lower cover so that I could disconnect the shift lever to replace the impeller in the water pump. I found the fitting down low for the Water presure guage. I took the fitting off of my old motor and attached the guage hose. After putting it all back together I had 15psi at idle on water hose. The old pump looked fine I just needed that piece of mind. I only paid $800.00 for the 1999 model motor. Thanks for the help on that project. I put the motor on a 18' Stratos bass boat. The motor did not have a prop on it. The blown motor that I took off had a 14 1/2 x 24 stainless. I think the prop will be a little on the large size and was thinking about a 14 1/2 x 21. Any suggestion?????????????

That motor should have the V6 style case with the odd gear ratio. You may well swing that prop with the 2.25:1 gear ratio. Give it a shot and see what happens. No sense spending $$ on another prop yet.

Dhadley:
You seem to know your stuff on boat motors. I will try the prop before I purchase of trade. What do you know about the 130 good or bad? Also the boat I put the motor on had oil injection and this motor is equiped with oil injection that had been disconnected and fuel/oil mixed manually. How do you feel about oil injection on this motor. It does not matter to me but I have the parts to hook it up. I feel that the motor that came on boat 150hp was blown do to injection issues
