water pump 3.0 merc i/o

do i have to put the boat in gear to take off the lower unit to change the water pump ? and is there any oil i have to drain? any help would be great

Check the adults only section at the top of the forum to see if there is a manual for your drive. Yes, drain the oil, place shifter in forward gear. you will have to have it in forward again to reassemble.
