Hi Everyone:

I removed the lower unit for a seal replacement on my 75 HP and noticed there is no "Lower Water Tube". This is a plastic sleeve like doodad that fits on the water tube just before it goes into the top of the water pump housing.

Currently, the water pump housing is a 474060 and it has a black rubber insert. I'm guessing a previous owner may have changed that out.

Here's my question...Do you use both the plastic water tube AND the black rubber insert? I just want to make sure it seals okay. To date, it's had the tube going directly into the rubber insert? It did overheat once last summer, but after a flush, thermostat and new 12 finned impeller, it seemed to be fine. Thanks!

The older engines used the plastic connector and I'm pretty sure the water tube wouldn't reach into the pump without it. The later pumps use the rubber grommet and I suspect they also have longer water tubes. Can you send me a picture of your pump, I can probably tell you when I see it.

Hey John and Jerry:

Thanks for the follow up. The boat is 90 miles away and I pulled the lower unit, so it will be hard to get a picture right now...Anyway, the water tube may not be making a good seal with the water pump housing, so I have ordered the plastic tube/connector. I'll be looking at it in a week or so and it will be interesting to see what arrangement will provide the best seal. Thanks again!
