Hi to everyone. I am going to replace my water pump this weekend and have one question. I have the manual and am not intimidated by the repair but evrything I have read or the videos I have watched never show replacement of the gasket between the lower and upper drive. I am going to assume that upon seperating these, that you would be replacing it. I have not opened up the water pump kit yet to see if that gasket is included or not. If there is not a gasket, what keeps water from entering around the mating surfaces between the lower and upper drive components.? Anyone knowledgeable on this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Just want to make sure I have all my parts before starting the job.
Thanks in advance!

I am new too. However, I recently changed my impeller on the lower unit and there was not a gasket for the mating between the lower unit and the powerhead. However, go to this website, type in your motor information and it brings up a pretty good illustrated parts breakdown.

Oh yeah, It also helps if you post year, make, model and HP of your engine. This way the pro's can look up the information instead of shooting from the hip. FYI- I replaced my impeller on a 1989 Force "L" drive 125 hp motor.

Thanks Don. I looked at the breakdown and dont see a gasket. I guess it's just my 13 years of GM mechanicism that tells me it's like putting in a thermostat in a car without a gasket. What keeps the water from leaking out or in the Alpha case, what keeps the water from getting in on 2 steel mating surfaces. Perhaps it will all make sense when I have it apart. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!
