I just recently installed a new water pump kit, on a 115 rude, My manual showed one set-up with sealant applied to the base plate of the pump housing, and another set-up without????? which one is right, my kit had a gasket so I assumed I needed no sealer and now have a weak stream, is this the problem????

I used High Tack Gasket Compound. You can find it at any reputable auto parts store.

So you guys are basically saying I should have used sealer...LOL!!!! My junk manual shows the old style pump housing using sealer, and the new style not using it, and of course my pump kit looked like somthing in between the two. Oh well I will tear her back apart tonight or tommorrow and re seal it. Should do the trick.
Thanks guys

You should try to find a manual on ebay, usually cheap used ones available.

riverducker, I have a manula it is a seylor, and it isn't real descriptive, and the pictures are not all real good either. It had instructions for 2 different pump housing assemblies, the one it used sealer on didn't look like the kit I had, but the one where they didn't mention sealer looked closer to my kit, as luck would have it I'm gonna be disassembling it again.

What I mean is that you should find that specific model/year manual, it should have much better specs. Good Luck

I agree, the original manuals are the best, very accurate, good pics and descriptive. You have to be careful with them bc most are falling apart, but good to have. Try ebay like he said, usually around 20 to 30 bucks. I as well put Gasket sealing compound underneath my impeller housing, as well as beneath the impeller housing plate, and on the bolts for the impeller housing. A little oil on the new impeller as well. Grease that drive shaft spline also b4 puttin her back together.

Re: water pump baseplate sealer???

are you sure that you don't have a different problem?

I have trouble imagining a water pump leak significant enough to affect performance.

first check for a clogged pisser, check at the head and at the end.

check the water inlet make sure its clear

if that is ok check the tube between the water pump and the head.

check for clogging and check condition of rubber grommet seal. he gromet could leak enough to cause cooling problems and squirt water into bad places.
