water pump dry rotted

the boat has been parked for 3 yrs. do i need to change the water pump for fear it may be dry rotted? it was fine last time used

yes. your supposed to do it every 2 regardless. you can probably just change the impeller as long as the housing and gaskets/ o rings are ok

You didn't say which engine you have , when you change the impeller, change any other rubber parts that are there - i.e. o-rings at the top of driveshaft, rubber bushing in the top of water pump, etc.

thank you sound like sound advice. i just bought this boat used im pretty new at this my other question is how does the oil from the little tank in the bottom of the boat get up to the motor. 1985 115hp johnson outboard. im just learning all this.
