I have me 1999 OX66 200 in because the high pressure fuel pump has failed. While they have the boat I am having them tune the engine. They asked if I wanted the Water Pump impeller replaced at the same time. The impeller replacement is $275. I this something I should have done?

It is already costing me about $900 for the fuel pump replacement.

If it has never been replaced or you don't know when it was last replaced then by all means it should be. But you could do it yourself ands save a couple hundred. Its really not that hard to do. I replace mine every couple years. Its cheap insurance.

How old is impeller and why would you leave that out? Who knows what should be done if we don't know is it 20 hrs old or 400 hrs old? One year or six years? Are you asking for financial advice on here?

Almost all engine manufacturers recommend that you replace the engine water pump every 4 years or every 200 operating hours. It is a smart thing to do. If you try to repair it yourself, make sure that you also inspect the insert & housing prior to reinstalling. Average water pump kit plus 1.5 hours of shop labor without any issues with the bolts on the gear case.

water pump kit 61A-woo78-ao is about 56 dollars, you may also have to cut off the retainer coller. add another 9 dollars for the coller and retainer.
water pump job, with no salt water corrosion issues, takes an hour or so.
did the shop try to soak the original high pressure pump in combustion chamber cleaner and break it free?
I have about 70% sucess rate breaking them loose unless water was in the VST.
that pump is close to 700 dollars but can be replaced in about 30 minutes.

yamaha reccomends pump inspection/replacement every 200 hours OR once per year whichever OCCURS FIRST.
you also need to inspect/replace the T-stats at the same intravels and inspect/replace the pressure control valve grommet at the same intravels.
wont be the first set I ever burned out with oxy/acetylene due to lack of maint.
just takes longer, aggrevates me more, but the pay is nice.
if a bolt breaks its a one hour minimum charge to drill it and tap or helicoil.
