I have a 1981 (I think)Evenrude 15 hp ourboard which has not been run (except for about an hour last year) for 10 to 15 or more years. I have been told that I should replace the water pump impeller before I use it much more.

Question #1: is this necessary?

Question #2: Can someone fax or email me an expoded picture of this vintage motor to help me with dis-assembly and re-assembly?

Question #3: Any words of wisdom or "tricks" involved with this kind of maintanence?

Thanks. usccdet@comcast.net

Yes its necessary. the rubber hardens and dries out, It will disintegrate and your motor will overheat, or worse.

Get yourself a repair manual (bottom of page), it has exploded views, tips, troubleshooting, step by step procedures.

If you are near a large library, they often have shop/repair manuals, you can read and copy the pages you need.

get a manual you will need to change the waterpump, carb kit, and all the fuel lines, dont forget to change the lower end gear oil also. this is a good start i am not sure if that engine has points and condencers but if it does you might as well change them too and start fresh
