water pump impeller....very stuck!

i have a 1983 evinrude that we are switching lower units onto....got it off no problem,..however we can't get the impeller off for the water pump..its very very stuck,..any suggestions on how to get this thing off? thanks :confused: :confused:

split it or use a metal saw to cut it loose.

Nope - I have used a hack saw. Try not to cut into the drivesahaft.

cut it off or remove the shaft and set it in a vice and use a soft faced hammer and drive the shaft from the impeller. carfully clean any corrosion from the shaft first, its also a good time to replace the shaft seal as well. set the impeller on the vice with the jaws almost touching the shaft and tap on the shaft and it will slip off, usually :) :)

thanks for everyones help..got it off. :) <br /><br />does anyone know the correct part number for a water pump kit for a 1983 35hp evinrude 2 stroke? <br />and where I can get one?<br /><br />And how would I disconnect the shifter linkage?

0393630 according to the brp web site and you should be able to buy one at a johnson-evinrude parts dealer.
