Hi Wayne,<br /> For proper operation of a vaned waterpump impeller, when running at anything more than an idle speed the blades aren't even contacting the outer housing. Rather they fold over a bit on themselves. The blades may not right themselves when turned over dry, but when running in water they will - water puts quite a load on the blades.<br /> This is why the old Mercury Direct-Reversing motors were able to pump water in either direction - the impeller merely switched directions... They had to put one-way valves in the housing so it would push the water in the right direction through the system...<br />- Scott
