Anyone ever run into this. Just got a OE water pump kit from my local Mercury dealer and installed but I noticed the white plastic water inlet tube fits very loose into the water pump housing. This is a 1982 Merc 1R. The original one I pulled out fit nice and snug. I even tried the old tube with the new housing and its nice and snug. Im leaning toward using the old tube. Anybody have any input? And second question is I heard the quad seal for the oil galley should be glued in instead of using Perfect Seal as the book shows. I guess they have a tendancy to blow out when filling the lower unit. Any thoughts on this? I appreciate anyones advice.
Thanks:D

The glue is just to make sure it stays in place during assembly ;)

Re: Water Pump Kit Question 1r Lower Unit

i don't use anything on my quad ring. maybe i'll start. service manual #2, for my 1 drive, don't say to use anything on that oil seal. so i havn't been, no issues.. #6 says use perfiect seal, special lub 101, which i believe to be waterproof grease, or 2-4-c..... yer choice... i reckon the perfect seal would be as close to glue as yer suppose to use.....

so who'd ya hear it from? i don't see why there'd be any excess pressure on the quad ring from fillin it with gear lub.... i mean the gear lub does have somewhere to go, like up and fillilng the upper till it runs of the vent hole... still no pressure.... if yer worried about if it's sealed or not. pressure test the drive prior to fillin it and see if it leaks...........

as for the white tube. i don't think it's for water. it's to guide it together for assembly... the water travels thru a copper tube that's inside the white guide.....
