Re: Water pump-need help

I have confirmed the water pump is pumping, took the lower off stuck it in a trash can, filled it with water, put a peice of gas hose on the drive shaft, put a drill bit in the other end of the hose and hooked to a drill, shot water 3' into the air.
Pulled the tstat and releif valve put water on the pick up tube and it put water out the tell tale first then the tstat hole.
SO I think the problem was the tstat, it seems to flow water everywhere it is suppose to.
Like I said, tonight is the first time the tstat has been out of the engine since it was built, 27 years is a pretty good service life.
I will get it back together tomorro and hopefully be done.

Water would have still exited via the tell tale if the t stat was stuck closed, as it is routed before the t stat.

Strange indeed. You DID turn the hose on when testing it on the muffs did you not?? LOL ;)

Would the motor pump water with the same set of muffs you are currently using? Could you post a pic of them?

I got them at Wlly world for like $5 so they aren't real super dooper but they have always worked in the past.
It is all tore down so I haven't run it yet.
Will blasting air through it hurt anything?

As stated, no, will not hurt. If the tstat are removed, blast the air up the water line to the t stat housing, then backflush it from the housing to the water line. This will ensure there is no blockage.

I went through the same thing last week. What I found with mine is with muffs I don't get the pee, I have to have it in a garbage can full, AND I have to idle it up a bit. Then it pee's like a race horse. I put the boat in water today, even at a idle it was peeing.

Done, whatever it was, the air the water or the tstat, it will now pump water on the muffs.
You still have to hold them on tight but once it gets going it stays going where before it wouldn't unless you were forcing the water in.
Now to figure out why my tach quit working......
Thanks for the help everyone, I must say it is alot better to give advice than need it.
