I have a 35 hp Mercury outboard that had a new water pump put on it last year. This year it will not start peeing water until you open the motor up,then it works fine until you cut the motor off. It starts all over again.

Re: water pump not peeing right

Hey, I'm having a similar problem on a late 60's Merc 50hp. Someone please repsond! I've not had it much more than idle in a trash can so I can't attest to it's "pee-ing" ability beyond that... but I need to know if there's reason for concern or if I simply need to bump up the throttle to see the "pee-ing"

Check to see if the line going to the outlet port is obstructed. Believe it or not you can sometimes get a little trash in the line that will not go out the smaller pee hole. You will need to remove the line and blow it out with low pressure air. There are also them darn little flying bugs that will lay their eggs and cover them up with dirt that can plug up small openings.
