Is there a RIGHT or WRONG direction to bend the water pump impellers?? I don't think mine is pumping to capacity after putting new one in. There wasn't nothing wrong with my other one but I changed it anyway because I was in the lower unit for other problems. My buzzer dosen't go off but I don't think it pumps like my other one did. I didn't notice how I took the other one out..Any help would be nice..

yes there is... the flywheel turns clockwise (looking down from the top), so you should turn your driveshaft clockwise (from the top) as you're getting the impeller to fit in the housing. It won't pump as effectively if the vanes are pointing the wrong way... there isn't enough room in the housing or give in the vanes for them to flip themselves around on their own.

use a bit of dish soap or dab of light lithium grease or some such thing to lube the impeller/housing when reassembling to keep it from overheating/melting at first start up. Lube washes away, and then water takes care of it.

good luck.

Brent

Turn the drive shaft clockwise from the top and the fins should trail the direction of travel

I have a infared laser thermometer, what temperture should the motor stay under. I want to make sure it does not overheat. I ought to be able to take the temperture at the head on the thermastat..

I took the temp. on the motor after runnig at half throttle in the lake for 15 minutes it was between 135 and 140 degrees at the thermastat houseing. I then let it idle for about 20 more minutes and it stayed at that temp. I layed my hand on the head and I could leave it there fairly long. The disharge water out of the telltale wasn't very hot at all. I noticed the 2 holes the motor exhaust comes out of about every 30 seconds or so steam or excessive smoke comes out of quite a bit in spuirts for about 5 seconds is this normal??
