Hadn't replaced impeller since getting the motor along with the 14 ft Sylvan Sport Troller it was mounted on. And, due to health issues it didn't see any use last year so I figured it needed to be done. Still a little "shaky", but figured I need to do some fishin' this year, at least.
Did as much research as I could on-line & etc. and managed to find the shift shaft disconnect after first removing the starter. Next, tackled the four lower unit bolts. Should have borrowed brother-in-law's impact wrench because removing those bolts was a snake pit. Had to use a 1/2 " breaker bar & 5/8 socket to remove each bolt. Looked them over after removal and they looked like they had been replaced with some epoxy added by whoever installed the last impeller.
Thing I wasn't prepared for was that the water tube/pipe from the pump to the power head came out with the lower unit, still attached to the pump. Pulled it off the pump and found a raised section on the tube intended to keep it attached to the pump. Went ahead and rebuilt the pump (new gaskets, O ring, & impeller) and now getting ready to put it all back together.
Question is, should I attach the water tube to the pump, or should I attach it to the power head first?? None of the exploded view illustrations I've seen show the water tube attached to the pump and nothing I've read says anything about the water tube.
